CHEYENNE, Wyo. (KGWN) - After being postponed for several month, waiting for landowners to come to an agreement, an ordinance has passed on its third reading. This involves a large expansion that presents Cheyenne with opportunities...but also concerns.
The Sweetgrass development is about 22 hundred acres by the intersection of East College Drive and Avenue C.
Dicky Shanor, of City Council, says, “It’s going to be a mix of residential and commercial…it’s pretty exciting.”
It's a large scale development planned over several decades.
Shanor explains, "It’s particularly important due to where Cheyenne is in terms of how we’re landlocked to the west with the air force base and to the north with county developments in existence."
Meaning our area to grow as a city is south and southeast. Though this development bring pluses, it also brings concerns. Any development is going to have an impact on the police department.
Cheyenne growing could not only impact commute time for residents, but also response time for officers.
