Cheyenne, Wyo. - A fixture of downtown Cheyenne for nearly 50 years is closing.
City News and Pipe Shop has been open since 1969, selling books and magazines while hosting authors and selling tobacco and food. Before its current incarnation, the shop was established in 1925 as Boyd’s Cigar Store.
Owner, Michael Flori said the problem is a common one for local bookshops, saying “due to the precipitous drop in the sales of print periodicals and books, City News has determined it’s time to retire.”
The store’s last day will be sometime in the next couple weeks. Until then they’re asking people to stop in, say goodbye, and take advantage of discounts as they liquidate inventory.
