Deadly crash near Wyoming-Nebraska border kills woman

Cheyenne, Wyo. - A fatal crash west of Pine Bluffs has resulted in the death of 24 year old Helena, Montana resident Kacie Ketchum.

According to Wyoming Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on December 14th at 1:25 p.m. near mile post 395 on Interstate 80 approximately five miles west of Pine Bluffs.

Kacie Ketchum was a passenger in a 1993 Chevrolet Blazer SUV that was being driven by 24 year old Columbus, Ohio resident Bryan Silverthorn. The SUV was traveling west on I-80 when it was rear-ended by a westbound 2016 Freightliner semi truck driven by 45 year old Rigby, Idaho resident Jaysen Thompson.

Kacie Ketchum was not wearing her seat belt and sustained fatal injuries on scene.

Bryan Silverthorn was wearing his seat belt, was transported by ground ambulance to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming and was hospitalized.

Kayla Lemmings, a 24 year old resident of Billings, Montana, was a passenger in the Chevy Blazer. She was wearing her seat belt, was transported by helicopter ambulance to a medical facility in Scottsbluff, Nebraska and has been hospitalized.

Jaysen Thompson was wearing his seat belt and was not injured.

Distracted driving and following too close are being investigated as contributing factors in this crash that marked the 111th highway fatality in Wyoming for 2016. There were 144 fatalities during this same time period in 2015.

Jaysen Thompson has been arrested and charged with homicide by vehicle. He has been booked into the Laramie County Detention Center in Cheyenne. The investigation is still ongoing at this time.
