Deadly wreck near Medicine Bow kills Wyoming woman

Cheyenne, Wyo. - A fatal crash north of Medicine Bow, Wyoming has resulted in the death of nineteen year old Hudson resident Ryon Countryman (female).

The crash occurred on November 27th at 4:00 p.m. near mile post 11 on Wyoming State Highway 487 approximately 11 miles north of Medicine Bow.

According to Wyoming Highway Patrol, Countryman was a passenger in a 2006 Kia Spectra passenger car that was driven by 18 year old Sheridan resident Carson Holwell (female). The Kia was traveling south on WY 487 in blizzard conditions with a snow and ice covered road surface. Holwell lost control of the Kia while braking to avoid several other vehicles that had lost control and were running off of the highway. The southbound Kia crossed the centerline of the highway and collided head-on with a northbound 1991 Ford F-250 pickup truck that was driven by 33 year old Manville resident Robert Bryant.

Ryon Countryman was wearing her seat belt and sustained fatal injuries on scene.

Carson Holwell was wearing her seat belt and was transported to Memorial Hospital of Carbon County in Rawlins where she was treated and released. Another passenger in the a Kia, a 16 year old female, was not wearing her seat belt and was taken to Memorial Hospital of Carbon County where she was treated and released.

Robert Bryant and his passenger, 27 year old Denver resident Tiffanie McGee, were both wearing their seat belts and were not injured.

Driver inexperience and road conditions due to the weather are being investigated as contributing factors in this crash that marked the 107th highway fatality in Wyoming for 2016. There were 138 fatalities during this same time period in 2015.
