Former Wyoming state representative Tom Lockhart passes away

Cheyenne, Wyo. - Former Wyoming state representative Tom Lockhart has passed away.

The Casper resident was 82.

Wyoming House Speaker Steve Harshman on Monday announced Lockhart's death on the floor of the Wyoming House of Representatives.

Lockhart was a Republican representative whose district covered much of southeast Casper. He served from 2001 until his retirement in 2016.

Speaker of the House Steve Harshman and President of the Senate Eli Bebout released a statement on the passing of Lockhart saying. “His knowledge of the issues and dedication to doing the job right was central to his work and his leadership. He was a champion of responsible mineral development and a forward-thinking leader in our state’s pursuit of economic diversification and responsible savings. We will work to continue his legacy of conservatism and commitment to improving opportunities for all Wyoming people.”

The Casper Star-Tribune reports Lockhart was born in Casper and attended Natrona County High School and the University of Wyoming.
