Gillette, Wyo - Former state lawmaker has died in a four-wheeler accident in Campbell County.
Sheriff Scott Matheny says 60-year-old Troy Mader was killed about 8 p.m. Thursday while herding cattle on a ranch north of Gillette.
Mader was thrown from the vehicle after going into a ravine. He died as a result of his injuries.
Mader served in the state Legislature after he was appointed in 2014 to fill a seat after the death of Rep. Sue Wallis. But he failed to win election that year, losing to Bill Pownall.
Mader also worked for the Abundant Wildlife Society of North America as a research director. In that role, he fought to prevent the restoration of the local wolf population by the federal government.
Under the name "T. R. Mader", he played guitar, wrote country music, and published a controversial book in the 1980’s on HIV/AIDS, titled "The Death Sentence of AIDS.”
