House bill would declare porn as a public health crisis

CHEYENNE, Wy.(KGWN)- As the Legislative session edges closer we are continuing to break down some of the bills our state lawmakers will be considering on top of the state budget.

The House Joint Resolution 1 is being put forth to address a growing issue in our age of technology. If passed, the bill would declare pornography as a public health crisis in Wyoming.

3 of the Laramie County Representatives are sponsors of the bill (Lars Lone, Jared Olsen, and Jim Blackburn) as well as representatives from Campbell, Natrona and Sheridan counties.

The goal of HJ0001 is for the state to acknowledge the need for education and prevention of what is being called the “pornography epidemic” that is harming people across the state.

If passed the bill would call upon the state to research how early exposure impacts our children’s behavior and brain development. It also calls for action for the state to develop recovery programs for porn addictions.

The bill will be considered in the 2018 Legislative session that starts on February 12th.
