House fire fueled by winds, displaces 3 Cheyenne residents

CHEYENNE, Wy.(KGWN)- Laramie County Fire District 1 was kept busy on Monday between EMS calls, 9 semi roll-overs, and a house fire all within 3 hours.

The residential fire was called in about 11:14 am in the 2300 block of York Avenue, near Triumph High School.

Along with LCFD1, Cheyenne Firefighters and Laramie County Fire District 2 responded.

The fire started outside of the home near the deck area in the backyard and quickly spread because of the wind. Also, because of the high winds it took firefighters a bit longer to control the flames. It took about 20 minutes for the crews to get the fire under control.

There was one resident inside at the time, who was alerted to the fire after neighbors saw smoke and came knocking on the front door. 2 dogs at the home were also saved thanks to the help of neighbors.

LCFD1 estimates that at least 30% of the home was damaged by smoke, water or the fire.

The cause remains under investigation.

Three renters at the home are now being helped by the Red Cross for immediate shelter and other needs.
