How you can honor police officers on Valentine's Day

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (KGWN) - Valentine's Day is only a week away and the Cheyenne Police Department is celebrating in a unique way...with a Valentine's tree in their lobby.

Though we've all heard of a Christmas tree, most of us may not have heard of one for Valentine's Day. This is a tree filled with paper hearts.

People are encouraged to go to the Public Safety Center, take one of the hearts off the tree, and write a grateful note to the department in general or to a specific officer.

Michelle Shimmin, of the Code Enforcement Office, says, "I thought it was something different. something new, something that hasn't been done before...at least not here. I thought it would be fun to try it."

The Valentine's tree will be up until about February 21st.
