Lander man killed in weekend crash

Cheyenne, Wyo. - A fatal crash south of Lander, Wyoming has resulted in the death of a 60 year old Lander man.

The crash occurred on October 29th at 5:00 p.m. near mile post one on Fremont County Road 414 approximately six miles south of Lander.

Ryck Pederson was operating a 1974 Honda motorcycle traveling west on County Road 414. While cresting a hill on a right hand curve, the motorcycle crossed the centerline and crashed with an eastbound 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by 56 year old Lander resident Jess Forton. Pedersen was thrown from the motorcycle after the crash with the Chevy pickup.

Pederson was wearing a helmet and was transported to SageWest Hospital in Lander where he succumbed to his injuries. Forton was wearing his seat belt and was uninjured.

Speed and sun glare are being investigated as contributing factors in this crash that marked the 97th highway fatality in Wyoming for 2016. There were 124 fatalities during this same time period in 2015. This crash was the 24th highway fatality involving a motorcycle in Wyoming for 2016.
