CHEYENNE, Wy.(KGWN)- The Wyoming Military Department honored soldiers with the DUSTOFF award on Friday May 5.

Chief Warrant Officer 2 Bryan Herget and Staff Sgt. Derrick Perkins were part of an aircrew on a UH-60 Black Hawk during a MEDEVAC mission in Afghanistan in 2015.

Thanks to their heroic actions during the mission they save the lives of 5 soldiers.

Captain Wade Meyers with the 2-211th Aviation Regiment says if medevac actually gets to the point of injury and gets the soldiers in the helicopter, they have a 90% chance of surviving the incident, which is a huge leap from where we were in previous wars.

Governor Matt Mead as well as the Wyoming Military Adjutant General helped honor them at F.E. Warren.
