CHEYENNE, Wyo. (KGWN) - Wednesday was Crystal Harper's last day with KGWN. She is now heading to Norfolk, VA to continue her career. She says, "It is a very bittersweet feeling, but I'm excited to be closer to my family. Words can't describe how much I will miss Cheyenne and I'm incredibly lucky to have started my career here."
Crystal joined the KGWN weather team in September of 2015. She was born and raised in a small town in upstate New York, but after joining the U.S. Air Force, Crystal had the opportunity to live in Texas, Mississippi, and Arizona.
While living in Tucson, Arizona, Crystal spent over four years forecasting the weather for military missions and everyday operations. She also spent about six months forecasting for drug missions in South America and has even provided weather support for our President. It was a very rewarding, but high stress job that provided an opportunity for quite a bit of hands-on experience with forecasting. The bulk of which was for military bases throughout the northwestern United States, included F.E. Warren AFB in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
After leaving the Air Force, Crystal started working with a local radio station in Tucson where she produced the morning talk show and provided hourly weather forecasts. It was there that Crystal got her first taste of the media industry and decided to pursue a career in television. Her first step was interning with the NBC affiliate in Tucson before heading north to the Cowboy State.
