Yellowstone National Park - Yellowstone National Park seeks comments from the public on a project to replace windows in the historic Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel.
As part of a seismic stabilization and interior/exterior rehabilitation project, the park proposes to replace 172 one-over-one, double-hung wood windows with new wood windows that duplicate the same style on the guest wing. The project will improve room ventilation and energy efficiency.
The hotel is part of the Mammoth Hot Springs Historic District. Pursuant to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, agencies must take into account effects on historic properties.
The park has determined, through consultation with the Wyoming State Historic Preservation Office, that the portion of the project that proposes the in-kind replacement of these windows would diminish the integrity of the hotel’s historic materials. This effort would therefore have an adverse effect on the historic property. The park believes other components of this rehabilitation project would not adversely affect this historic property.
The park is seeking public comment on potential mitigations to resolve this adverse effect. Information on the resolution of adverse effects on historic properties is available at 36CFR § 800.6. Information on this project is available online through the Planning, Environment and Public Comment (PEPC) system.
Submit comments through PEPC, by hand-delivery, or by mail. Comments will not be accepted by fax, e-mail, or by any other means. Comments must be received by midnight MDT, February 16, 2018.
