Safe 2 Sturgis motorcycle safety campaign hopes to save lives this August

The Wyoming Highway Patrol will be partnering with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Colorado State Patrol, the Wyoming Department of Transportation and the Colorado Department of Transportation to join forces to raise everyone's awareness of motorcycle safety and motorcycle enthusiasts traveling to the 76th annual Sturgis motorcycle rally. The campaign is titled Safe 2 Sturgis.

The goal of the campaign is to keep motorcyclists safe to and from summer motorcycle rallies. The campaign will start around August 1st and end around August 21st corresponding with the week before, during and after the rally. A #Safe2Sturgis hash tag is included in the campaign to help encourage all motorists to help with the campaign on social media by posting photos to the hash tag of how all motorists (including motorcyclists) are staying safe to Sturgis.

In 2015, 24 of Wyoming's highway fatalities were on a motorcycle. Wyoming averages three motorcycle fatalities per year during the Sturgis rally alone.
