Cheyenne, Wyo. - The U.S. Secretary of Education will be in Wyoming on Tuesday.
Betsy DeVos plans to visit Casper and the Wind River Indian Reservation as part of her "Rethink School Tour."
The first stop will be Woods Learning Center in Casper from 8:30 am – 10 am. Afterwards, DeVos heads to St. Stephens Indian High School from 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm.
DeVos made headlines across the nation in January when she cited the Cowboy state during a confirmation hearing on Capitol Hill. When asked during the hearing if she supported guns in schools, she cited the threat posed by grizzly bears in her response to a question about guns in schools.
“I think that is best left to locales and states to decide.” Devos said. “I would refer back to Senator Enzi and the school he was referring to in Wapiti, Wyoming, and that there is probably a gun in the school to protect from potential grizzlies.”
The school that was referenced is the tiny Wapiti Elementary School in rural Wyoming, which installed a bear fence around its playground in 2002 after a number of incidents involving bears.
