CHEYENNE, Wyo - So, the question around town has been, "what's with the smoke?". And here's your answer: the smoke is coming from the wildfires in Montana, hundreds of miles away! The reason the smoke is here is simple, the weather.
Up in the upper levels of the atmosphere, winds are coming out of the northwest, bringing the smoke from Montana, down here. However, over the past couple of days, the winds at the surface have been out of the north and northwest, bringing the smoke from the wildfires down here at the surface. This is why Labor Day looked so "foggy" and it smelled like smoke.
This can create some health issues for those at risk, like people with heart and lung diseases, the elderly, and even children. There are steps you can take to help prevent any smoke related issues, such as keeping your indoor air clean, and limiting the amount of pollution into your home by limiting activities that keep you going in and out of your home. Also, listen to your doctor or healthcare provider.
