Youth Alternatives: Meaningful connections

CHEYENNE, Wyo - It is easy to go through the week and have very few meaningful interactions with your kids. Cell phones and tablets pull us away from personal contacts.

Here's some advice for connecting with your kids.

Go for a walk around the block with them and leave your cell phones at home.

Make eye contact, and tell her one character quality you really appreciate about her. “ I admire your loyalty, or your perseverance.” Give her one specific example of when you saw her demonstrate it.

When doing errands with your child, stop at Baskin Robbins for an ice cream cone before going home.

Park yourself somewhere along his path through life and give him something as he walks by. For example, you could give him a Granny Smith apple, a football or Pokémon card, or his favorite snack.
