CHEYENNE, WY (KGWN) - Country music artist Aaron Watson is in Cheyenne today (7/25/14) as part of the Cheyenne Frontier Days festivities. He and his band will be playing the Outlaw Saloon tonight, but stopped into the CBS 5 studios first for an interview and performance.
Aaron is in town for more than a concert, he’s also here to pay his respects to the memory of Lane Frost on the 25th anniversary of his death at CFD. Aaron has forged a special connection with Lane's family, and his song “July in Cheyenne” references Frost’s career and his tragic death. It’s also a representation of a personal tragedy for Aaron and his family, and his redemption as a songwriter and artist.
Both fans and critics are praising the song as well. “July In Cheyenne” swept the Texas Regional Radio Report awards in March winning Single of the Year, Song of the Year and Video of the Year.
Aaron’s career highlights include 4 albums charted on the Billboard Country Chart, several nationally charted Billboard singles and eight #1 singles on the Texas Music Charts. His most recent album ‘Real Good Time’ was a career-best No. 9 rank on Billboard’s country chart along with his biggest Nielsen SoundScan week on Top Country Albums. Remarkably, this was accomplished under Watson’s own independent HTK Records banner. Watson helped round out the Top 10 alongside powerhouses like Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Zac Brown Band and Little Big Town. Produced by Sam Seifert and Wes Hightower, this is Watson’s eleventh album.
Currently, Aaron is finishing production on his next album
