Cheyenne, WY (KGWN) - The City of Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities (BOPU) is planning $7 million in annual water and sewer maintenance projects this year. These projects replace or rehabilitate existing water mains and sewer mains.
Approximately $2.4 million will be used to replace 10,995 feet of water mains to improve flows and replace aging mains. Construction areas include Dell Range Boulevard near Powderhouse Road and near Stillwater Avenue, East 19th Street, Omaha Road, Custer Street, West 5th Street, East 10th Street, Dover Road and Amherst Road.
Approximately $1.1 million will be used to replace or line 6,070 feet of sewer mains. These projects will help improve sewer flows and prevent roots from entering sewer mains. Sewer mains that will be replaced are located near Hilltop Avenue, Mountain Road, Redmond Road and Apache Street. Sewer mains that will have a liner installed are located near Dell Range Boulevard near Grandview, Henderson Drive, Yucca Road, Platte Avenue and Southwest Drive. Installing a liner disturbs the street less than digging up and replacing the mains because the main is only accessed at a few locations.
The BOPU will also replace water and sewer mains as part of the City of Cheyenne’s reconstruction of Logan Avenue and Snyder Avenue. As part of these projects, 11,200 feet of water mains will be replaced and upsized and 5,600 feet of sewer mains and will be replaced. The water and sewer main portions of these projects will cost approximately $3.5 million.
In addition to these projects, the BOPU will replace approximately 30 sewer manholes and 20 fire hydrants.
