Cheyenne, WY (KGWN) - One person was killed and another hospitalized in an accident near Elk Mountain in Carbon County Sunday.

Charles Lane, 24, of Spokane Washington was killed and Ann McGuinness, 19, also of Spokane, was hospitalized.

McGuinness was driving westbound on Interstate 80 near milepost 260 traveling at a high rate of speed when she came upon Larry Lairson's, of Colorado Springs, tractor trailer combination which was traveling at a much slower rate of speed. McGuinness swerved left to avoid hitting Lairson's vehicle, but was unable to do so. McGuinness' right front fender struck Lairson's trailer on the lower left portion of the bumper. McGuninness' vehicle went into a driver's side leading broadside slide across both westbound lanes. The vehicle went off of the road and down an embankment on the north side where it went airborne before landing on its trunk. The vehicle then flipped one and a half times, coming to rest on its roof. Lane was ejected during the rollover. Troopers continue to investigate the crash and are determining what roles speeding and alcohol had in the incident. Charges are pending.

Neither Lane or McGuinness were wearing seat belts.
