Cheyenne, WY (KGWN) - In its ongoing battle against cancer, Wyoming had its ninth annual "Celebration of Hope" Thursday morning at the Capitol Building.
The focus of this year's event was blood cancers and young adult cancer survivors.
This year there were 200 cases of blood cancer diagnosed in Wyoming and 101 deaths in 2011. With blood cancer incidence rates high among the young adult population.
At the age of 26, Stephanie Estes, is currently in remission after being diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. She knows the difficulty of being a cancer patient as a young adult.
"You aren't quite independent yet, but you do feel alone so bringing light to there are support groups out there. There are ways of getting financial help and there are people who want to hear your story and want to support you is definitely exciting so I'm excited that they brought the light to that today and focused specifically on young adults," Estes said.
