Cheyenne, WY (KGWN) - The Cheyenne Police Department and LCSD# are holding a joint news conference to discuss the growing problem of explicit photo sharing among students.
The Cheyenne Police Department released the following statement:
Local law enforcement, along with the Laramie County District Attorney’s Office and Laramie County School District #1 will be holding a press conference at the Cheyenne Police Department tomorrow at 1 p.m. to discuss a growing problem in the community.
Recent investigations by law enforcement have revealed that inappropriate or explicit photos of students are being shared.
This practice appears to be particularly prevalent among junior high through high school age youth.
Parents of school aged children are encouraged to visit with their children about the serious ramifications in sharing inappropriate or explicit photos. State Statutes and Federal Codes make
it illegal to possess, create or share explicit images of a minor under the age of 18, even if the person is possessing, creating or sharing a photo or video of themselves.
In addition to the news conference a letter is being sent to the parents of school children to help protect and educate students about the dangers of this type of activity.
We have also attached the letter LCSD#1 is sending out to parents.
NewsChannel 5 will cover the news conf. and have a full report Wednesday at 5:30
