Cheyenne hosts household hazardous waste collection event

Cheyenne, WY (KGWN) - From the City of Cheyenne:

The City of Cheyenne’s Sanitation Division will hold a free household hazardous waste collection event from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 8 at the Solid Waste Transfer Station, 220 North College Drive.

The City’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility is currently closed because a new facility is under construction. Reservations are not needed to drop off items on June 8. The event is first come, first serve.
Household Hazardous Waste items are pesticides, motor oil, antifreeze, solvents and oil-based paint and common household cleaners.

The City will not accept e-waste (computers, etc.), appliances, latex paint, or tires on June 8. To dispose of latex paint, open the can, let it dry hard, and then dispose in your regular trash. If there is more than half a gallon of latex paint, dump cat litter into the can. Latex paint can be tossed into the trash because it is not considered hazardous waste.

Motorists will not be allowed to get out of their vehicles for safety reasons. Sanitation workers will unload all household hazardous waste from vehicles.

Once completed the new Household Hazardous Waste Facility will be open year round and will be free for residential household hazardous waste drop off. The new facility is expected to be completed in late fall. Monument Builders of Cheyenne is constructing the $2.1 million facility. It is being paid for by money from the County Consensus Block Grant and the State Loan And Investment Board.
