Cheyenne, WY (AP) - A Cheyenne man faces a minimum of 20 years in prison after admitting to fatally shooting his wife during an argument in October.

Thirty-one-year-old Christopher M. Town pleaded guilty Monday to second-degree murder. The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reported that he told the judge that thought he shot his estranged wife, 29-year-old Crystal Town, several times.

The couple's 10-year-old daughter witnessed the shooting and her family expressed relief that she won't have to testify at a trial now.

Town was charged with first-degree murder and originally pleaded not guilty by reason of mental illness. On Monday, he told the judge he was mentally ill at the time of the shooting. In answer to the judge's questions, he said he did realize he could kill his wife by firing at her.
