LARAMIE, Wyo. (Feb. 15, 2014) — Double-doubles from Kayla Woodward and Fallon Lewis helped the Cowgirl basketball team to a 23-point win, 103-80, over the San José State Spartans, on Saturday afternoon. The 103 points were the most scored by Wyoming this season and the 15th 100-point game in school history. The Cowgirls are now 17-6 overall on the season and 8-4 in the Mountain West while the Spartans drop to 10-14 overall and 4-9 in league play.

“I’m exhausted and I didn’t even have to get up and down the floor. The pace of the game was unbelievable and we kept asking our players to keep pushing and San Jose State kept pushing,” said head coach Joe Legerski. “The game was centered on the fact that we went small for the first time. Our fives had a tough time matching up, so we brought in Kaylee (Hoffman) and Jasmine (Davis) to give us the ability to be able to defend and attack the pressure. Kaylee gave us good energy especially her block from behind which we work on in practice. For Kayla, Kaitlyn and Fallon, they went out and do what they do. The combination of how we had to play to win and the big three scorers stepping up and playing at a high level resulted in the victory tonight.”

Out of the halftime break, the two teams played fairly even as Wyoming even increased their lead by one, 68-48. The Spartans chipped away at the lead with an 8-0 run to close the gap to 12, 68-56. Baskets by Lewis and Woodward ended the run and got the lead back to 16, 72-56. San José State continued to battle back and went on an 11-6 run to make it an 11-point game, 78-67, with nine minutes left in the game.
