Crews opening Wyoming mountain passes to traffic

Cheyenne, WY (AP) - Crews plan to have all but one mountain pass in Wyoming open for the Memorial Day Weekend.

Several high mountain passes in the state are closed for the winter because of snow and then plowed open in the spring.

The Beartooth Highway in Park County in northwest Wyoming opened Friday morning. The highway is near the northeast entrance to Yellowstone National Park.

In south-central Wyoming, the Wyoming Department of Transportation expects to open Wyoming 130 in the Snowy Range at dawn Saturday.

However, Wyoming 70 over Battle Pass in the nearby Sierra Madre Mountains is still closed. It is undetermined when that pass will be opened.

WYDOT cautions travelers to watch for patches of ice before the morning sun dries the road surface and be mindful of quickly changing weather.
