Cheyenne, WY (KGWN) - Delta Kappa Gamma in Cheyenne is an organization made up of current and former educators that give back to the community, in particular, to those who are seeking a career in education. One way they do that is by hosting a book sale on the first weekend in March, and they've done that for the last 31 years.
Despite the cold and snowy weather this morning, the book sale had a line of nearly 200 people waiting to get in for the massive sale. The sale has gotten so big over the years, they had to hold this year's event at the former, and now vacated, State Liquor Division Warehouse on Campstool road.
Patricia Gennison, who co-chairs the event, said that DKG had received nearly 55,000 donated books in the month of February and was astounded by the outpouring of the community. JoAnn Baumhover, the DKG treasurer, said they haven't determined what the funds raised from the event will go to, but that the money will go back into the community. In 2007, DKG raised $50,000 for an endowment at the University of Wyoming for scholarships, those funds were matched by the state. They did something similar for LCCC in 2009 and have given money to the Children's Village at the Botanic Gardens in Cheyenne as well as the Laramie County Library Foundation.
The event will continue tomorrow from 9:00 AM till 4:00 PM with some great sales. It is located at 1520 Campstool Rd in Cheyenne.
