Element Church spends the day stuffing back packs

Cheyenne, WY (KGWN) - Volunteers from Element Church and residents from Cheyenne spent the day stuffing back packs with everything from glue to highlighters. Over 2,000 of these back packs will given away to kids from kindergarten all the way up to high school seniors at the Back to School Bash next weekend at Lion's Park.

The back packs were bought by Element Church but all the binders, loose leaf paper, erasers, crayons, and everything else was bought and donated from the Element Church congregation.

Julie Stumbo, a staff member at the church said, "...the congregation really stepped up and bought tons of supplies and brought 'em into the church and we've just had a huge outpouring of donations."

Most of us might take the basic school supplies for granted, but for some kids a new binder or a new back pack is a luxury. Barbara Fecht of Needs Inc. says, "...educationally, that's the most important tools we can give them is just the basics that they need to get started so that they're learning at the same advantage as everybody else."

The Back to School Bash will be at Lion's Park on Saturday, August 16th. It's a free event, but a donation of one non-perishable food item is encouraged. Elemental Church will be giving away the back packs there, again for free, but will also be giving away shoes, bicycles, as well as several scholarships for older kids.
