Equal Justice Wyoming will host a Legal Resource Fair on Tuesday, October 27, 2015, from 5pm to 8pm at the First United Methodist Church, 108 E. 18th Street, Cheyenne, Wyoming.
The Legal Resource Fair is open to the public and will include presentations on several legal topics, including landlord/tenant issues, small claims court, unfair debt collection practices, wills and small estate planning, and expungement of criminal records. In addition, Equal Justice Wyoming will hold a free legal advice clinic where members of the public who financially qualify can receive free legal advice from volunteer attorneys on civil legal matters. Students from the University of Wyoming College of Law will also assist in drafting wills for individuals. Local legal aid programs and other service providers will have information booths at the fair to help the community learn more about their programs and resources that are available.
“We want people to know their rights and have access to help when they have a legal problem,” said Angie Dorsch, Executive Director of Equal Justice Wyoming. “It’s hard to face legal problems on your own if you can’t afford an attorney. This is an opportunity for anyone in the community to get legal information, find out about available resources, and if you qualify, even talk to an attorney.”
“This event is a great way for people in the community to learn more about the law and the legal system and how to address legal issues when they arise,” said Chris Jorgenson, Staff Attorney at Equal Justice Wyoming. “We appreciate all the volunteers, especially our pro bono attorneys, who are donating their time at this event. Providing this service would be impossible without their dedication.”
The Legal Resource Fair is being held as part of a series of events around the state provided by volunteer lawyers during National Celebrate Pro Bono Week. As part of the Wyoming celebration, Governor Matt Mead held a proclamation signing ceremony on October 16, 2015 to designate the week of October 25 – 31, 2015 as Pro Bono Week in Wyoming.
