Fifth-Penny Tax Meetings

Cheyenne, Wyo. (Release) The City of Cheyenne will hold three public meetings in June and July to gather public input on recommendations for use of the proposed 2015 - 2018 Fifth - Penny Sales Tax revenues.

City staff will take public input at these meetings on the pro posed distribution of the fifth - penny sales tax revenue estimated at $4 2.5 million over the four year period. All meetings will be held at 6 p.m .
A presentation on the City’s fifth - penny tax has been used in previous years and how the proposed 2015 - 2018 revenue will be used will begin at 6:15 p.m.

City staff and other agency representatives will be available to answer questions. The public meetings will l be held:

-Thursday, June 19 , Kiwanis Community House, 4603 Lions Park Drive.

-Wednesday, June 25 , Youth Activity and Community Center, 1317 Parsley Boulevard.

-Tuesday, July 1 , Cheyenne Fire & Rescue Fire Training Complex , 7222 Commerce Circle.

The Fifth - Penny Tax is the primary funding source for street construction and maintenance within the City.

The tax also provides funding for the Cheyenne Police Department, Cheyenne Fire & Rescue, Parks & Recreation, other various City agencies and outside agencies like United Way of Laramie County, Cheyenne Animal Shelter and City/County Health Department. The Fifth Penny Sales Tax is a county - wide tax that has been in effect in Laramie County since 1978.

The tax will be up for renewal by voters on Tues day, Nov. 4, 2014.
