Wildfire grows in Medicine Bow Mountains, Southwest of Laramie, WY

The Owen Fire is located on the north-northwest side of Lake Owen, approximately 30 miles SW of Laramie.

The Owen Fire, located on the north-northwest side of Lake Owen or 30 Miles SW of Laramie, has now burned more than 500 acres.

120 firefighters are on scene, including multiple USFS & county engines/tenders. Two Type I & Type III helicopters on scene getting water from Lake Owen with support coming from three heavy air tankers, supported out of Jeffco Airtanker Base (Colo) at Loveland Airport.

Evacuations are in place for Lake Owen Campground, Day-Use Area & dispersed campers in the area. Forest Roads 517 & 540 are closed, in addition to Lake Owen Campground & Day-Use Area. Evacuation notices are also in effect for residents along Fox Creek Road & surrounding communities. Crews recommend no unnecessary travel on Fox Creek Road.

For those affected, an emergency shelter has been set up at Harmony School on WY Hwy 230, as well as at the Centennial School on WY Hwy 130.

The Owen Fire, located on the north-northwest side of Lake Owen or 30 Miles SW of Laramie, has burned an estimated 300+ acres.

Minimal rain fell on the fire late in the afternoon and early in the evening as showers and thunderstorms moved through the area.

40 personnel and a Type III Helicopter are on the scene and additional air resources have been ordered including two Heavy Air Tankers, two Type I Helicopter and another Type III Helicopter.

The Albany County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) is advising that residents of Woods Landing, Jelm, Fox Creek Road and Fox Park should shelter in place. No unnecessary travel on Fox Creek Road.

An emergency shelter has been set up at Harmony School on WY Hwy 230. In the case of evacuation, Albany Co. Sheriff's Dept. will notify residents via Code Red Alert, local media & the Albany Co. web site, co.albany.wy.us/

There is no word yet on what may have cause the fire or if anyone has been injured. There's also been no reports of any buildings or homes that may have been in the area and burned.

Laramie Fire Department has confirmed a wildfire in the Centennial, WY area. Crews are on their way now to an area near Lake Owen and Albany, close to Highway 130.

As of 5:15pm (7/7/14) the Owen fire is now at 50+ acres and growing and evacuations have been ordered for Lake Owen Campground & Day-Use Area, as well as the north end of Fox Creek Road.

Several fire departments have been dispatched to help out, and help from a fire-fighting helicopter has been requested.

There is no word yet on what may have cause the fire or if anyone has been injured. There's also been no reports of any buildings or homes that may have been in the area and burned.
