Frigid Temps Causing Problems for Tires

  •  Check tire pressure once a week
  • Get flat tires changed and repaired immediately

Cheyenne, WY (KGWN) - The below freezing temperatures affecting Cheyenne residents, are also affecting their cars. As temperatures plunge, air molecules shrink, causing tires to deflate at a faster rate. And when temperatures drop more than 40 degrees overnight, it can speed up that process even more.

Check your tire pressure more often than usual -- the air pressure can fluctuate from five to ten pounds in colder temperatures. If pressure is low, fill the tires immediately, if you continue to drive on a low tire, it can cause damage to the rim and the tire, and may need to be replaced rather than repaired.

Filling tires with nitrogen makes them deflate slower, so ask a tire store or garage about using a different gas.
