Cheyenne, WY (AP) - Negotiating teams from the Wyoming House and Senate are meeting at the State Capitol in Cheyenne to try to resolve differences in their respective amendments to the budget bill.

The conference committee started meeting Wednesday afternoon.

Major differences remain, including whether the Legislature should adopt a House amendment that would direct the Wyoming Department of Health to explore with the federal government over the next year a possible expansion of the state Medicaid system.

Crafting the $3.3-billion general funds budget that will fund state government operations for the two-year period beginning July 1 is the main objective of the legislative session that started two weeks ago.

Riverton Republican Sen. Eli Bebout is leading the Senate team. He says he's hopeful the conference committee can wrap up its work Wednesday evening.
