Landslide Shuts Down Road Near Yellowstone

CODY, WY A landslide on Tuesday afternoon (7/15/14) led to the closure of US Highway 14/16/20 west of Cody at mile post seven. the closure was in effect for approximately eight hours.

This highway is key this time of year as it is the east entrance to Yellowstone National Park.

Tourists encountered mud, rocks, logs and debris blocking the roadway.

Wyoming State Troopers, WYDOT crews and the Park County Sheriff's Department responded to keep motorists safe and clear the slide from the road.

Lieutenant Phil Farman stated that no one was injured and no crashes resulted from the landslide as the WYDOT crews did a great job clearing the highway.

The roadway was completely reopened just after midnight on Wednesday, July 16th.
