MAFFS Training in Wyoming

Cheyenne, WY (KGWN) - Area residents may see more C-130s in the sky over the next few days.

The Wyoming Air National Guard's 153rd Airlift Wing along with the 145th out of North Carolina and the U.S. Forest service are conducting airborne fire fighting training.

Thursday, crews practiced water drops off of Happy Jack Road just west of Curt Gowdy State Park.

The C-130s can drop up to 3,000 gallons of slurry retardant in a matter of seconds.

"It's always good to keep our partners working together and training when we can and this provides them an opportunity," said Frank Romero, District Ranger for the Laramie Range District. "They can also see some of the terrain they may have to be in at some point."
