Post 6 Earns Regional Bid

By  |

Cheyenne, WY (KGWN)- The Cheyenne Post 6 Baseball Board of Directors has dreamed about this for years, being told it couldn't be done.

"We have been trying to get a regional for years!" Board Director Phil Maggard said in a text message.

The bid went in on February 1st.

Just over three months later, the word finally came in,

"WE GOT THE REGIONAL!" Came the all caps message from Maggard.

Cheyenne will host the 2015 & 2016 American Legion Baseball AA Northwest Regional Tournament.

This will be the first time Cheyenne will host a Legion regional tournament.

The effort required the involvement of the Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce, Wyoming Office of Tourism, Visit Cheyenne and even Mayor Richard Kaysen and Governor Matt Mead got involved, with letters included in the bid packet.

Cheyenne will host the tournament for two years: Aug 6-10, 2015 and Aug 4-8 2016.

The tournament will feature state champions from Hawaii, Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming (unless Cheyenne is the state champ, in which case the Wyo runner-up will attend).

Denver will serve as the travel hub for the tournament.
