Cheyenne, WY (KGWN) - Construction of a new Safeway in what is formerly known as the Cole Shopping Center, is being delayed.
Mayor Rick Kaysen said he's been advised by Safeway Corporation representatives that they will not begin demolition and reconstruction this fall as originally planned.
Safeway stated the reason for the delay was they did not want to begin construction right before winter and deal with constant delays on the project due to weather.
"They have now targeted March 1, 2015 for the beginning of the redevelopment. They are absolutely 100 percent committed to the project. This is about the timing and bringing that new redevelopment into being," said Mayor Rick Kaysen.
Safeway says they expect to be open for business by November 2015.
