Cheyenne, WY (KGWN) - Wyoming State Forestry Division (WSFD) will be burning slash piles this week in Harriman, Wyoming. The piles are the result of thinning operations to help reduce wildfire hazards.
With 22 large piles to burn, smoke may be visible from Harriman Road and I-80. Smoke impacts to travelers should be minimal. The piles may glow and produce minor amounts of smoke in the early evening before going out.
Recent snow storms have provided sufficient moisture to safely burn the piles. As a safety measure, all piles are monitored daily until they are declared out. Laramie County Fire District #10 will assist WSFD if needed.
In addition, a detailed prescribed burn plan has been prepared specifying the weather, fuel and numerous other conditions that must exist in order for the proposed burns to be completed safely and effectively.
Please contact Wyoming State Forestry Division at 307-777-7586 if you have questions.
