Cheyenne, WY (KGWN) - The July 4th weekend is a busy time for everyone, but it can be especially busy for the Cheyenne Fire Department. Almost everyone was shooting off some form of fireworks this weekend and with all those explosives going off, the fire hazard was pretty high.
According to the fire department though, they actually had a pretty slow weekend and only responded to, "5 or 6 grass fires". And there were no reported injuries with those fires.
While the fire department had a slow weekend, all those loud fireworks probably startled a number of pets around town. The Cheyenne Animal Shelter ended up taking in more animals this holiday weekend than they usually do, picking up 15 stray dogs along with a couple cats.
Katie Emmons of the shelter said that if you lost a pet this weekend, there is an after hours lost and found hotline you can call at 307-214-5779 to see if your pet is at the shelter. There is also a lost and found Facebook page where if you come across a stray, you can post pictures to the Facebook page.
Emmons also says that if you do come across a stray, that it's always better to bring them to the shelter where they are better equipped to handle them.
