Veterans Commission Donates 5,000 to UW

Cheyenne, WY (KGWN) - The Wyoming Veterans Commission voted on Friday to donate $5,000 to the University of Wyoming's Veterans Services Center. According to Commission Director Larry Barttlebort, the donation will be "seed money" for the Center's "emergency relief fund," designed to help student veterans with smaller school expenses.

The Veterans Services Center helps student veterans returning to, or just starting at the University of Wyoming. Barttlebort said the money will help students with expenses like laptop batteries. He said they don't know yet if the school will loan out the money, or give it to students, and that how they use the money is up to them.

The money comes from the Commission's trust fund. The fund is paid for by the sale of license plates and stickers. The fund had more than $64,000 dollars in it. The vote to donate passed unanimously.
