Vets commission hears from new veteran support group

Cheyenne, WY (KGWN) - Homes for All Veterans is a relatively new veteran's support organization in Cheyenne. On Friday, the lone Cheyenne employee, Lauren Davis, spoke to the Wyoming Veterans Commission at their quarterly meeting.

Homes for All Veterans is a grant-funded program that started in Colorado. In January, they started helping homeless and low-income veterans in Cheyenne. Davis doesn't even have an office and gives out her personal number for referrals. She said they hope to open an office soon, and have one that's accessible to veterans without transportation.

HAV isn't just a home-placement service. They encourage vets to find a place they want to call home, then HAV helps with first month's rent, security deposits, basic housing needs, and even work uniforms for those also seeking jobs.

The Veterans Commission talked at length about the problem of homeless veterans, and said they would like to bring down the number significantly in the next year.
