'Wigwam 2' officially opens its doors

Cheyenne, WY (KGWN) Just in time for Cheyenne Frontier Days, the Wigwam 2 Bar and Lounge is open again. The bar, located in the Historic Plains Hotel in downtown Cheyenne had been closed since the early 2000's.

Hotel GM John Burns called Wednesday's soft-open a success, and said there were more than 100 people enjoying the new watering hole.

The low-key grand opening on Thursday had a smaller crowd, but there was a mix of former Wigwam regulars, and out of town visitors trying out the bar for the very first time on its very first night. Amy Allen was at the Wigwam 2 with friends, the Houston native is in town for CFD and said the bar was what she'd expect. "It has a lot of character, this is what I'd want to see coming from Houston to Wyoming," Allen said.

Bert McClung said he loved the old Wigwam, and is thrilled to see it back downtown. "I think it will revitalize downtown, I think it will add value to tourism and I think it will be an experience," said McClung.

Burns said none of it could have happened without the help and support of former Plains owner, Jerry McDonald. McDonald was at the grand opening Thursday and said it was "heartwarming," to see the bar back open.
