Cheyenne, WY (KGWN) - The Historic Plains Hotel has been under quite a few renovations since opening in 1911. But the newest renovation isn't something new, it's the return of an old favorite. The Wigwam Lounge is coming back to the hotel, this time though, it's called the Wigwam Two.
The original Wigwam closed in 2000 when the hotel added a new ballroom. It was converted into the Trails Coffee shop, and a gift shop.
The plan for the Wigwam Two is a 'soft launch' for Cheyenne Frontier Days. Plains Hotel General Manager John Burns said they'll have two bars set up, and the gift shop will serve as overflow. There will be temporary outdoor seating as well. "Then after Frontier Days, we'll just see how it goes," said Burns. He's confident the Wigwam Two will become permanent.
Permanent plans include knocking down the wall between the old gift shop and coffee shop to make a larger, L-shaped bar. It will have call backs to the original bar, but Burns said Wigwam Two will have it's own identity. "We'll have some old pictures and old items, but it's going to be more contemporary."
