Fremont County, WY (KGWN) - Two people were killed in a Fremont County accident involving two vehicles and twelve people.
4 year-old Aylin Ruiz and 56 year-old Delores Ruiz were killed when their car collided on a with another car traveling through Togwotee Pass last Thursday.
According the the Wyoming Highway Patrol's just released report, US 26 (aka Togwotee Pass) was snow packed and icy with snowfall at the time of the crash.
Ruiz-Villa was eastbound traveling at a speed too fast for the existing conditions when he lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle went into a broadside slide going into the westbound lane of travel. Wilson was westbound and saw the Ruiz-Villa vehicle in his lane sliding toward him. Wilson attempted to steer to the right side of the roadway to avoid the collision, however, the high snow banks prevented him from completely leaving the roadway. The passenger side of Ruiz-Villa's vehicle collided with the front of Wilson's tractor trailer combination.
The crash resulted in a temporary road closure of Togwotee Pass for approximately 5 hours. Upon completion of the crash investigation all information will be turned over to the Fremont County Attorney's Office. They will make the determination as to the filing of any additional charges. Ruiz-Villa has been cited for failing to maintain his vehicle within a single lane.
8 people were hospitalized.
