Cheyenne, WY (KGWN) - For many high school seniors, the end of the school year means graduation parties and a final summer together with childhood friends.
For others it means the beginning a life of serving one's country.
"Over 50 young people from Wyoming, many of whom just finished their education and now are starting a whole new life of serving our nation," said Sen. John Barrasso(R), Wyoming.
Young and men and women of Wyoming were honored for their choice to join the United States military.
"Wyoming is the only state that celebrates the enlistment of new men and women into the military. I wanted to come back and congratulate each one of them," said Barrasso.
United States Senator John Barrasso and Governor Matt Mead were there to show their appreciation and support to the new recruits and their families.
"So many cases it's a whole family commitment to the future of America, to our safety, to our freedom," Barrasso said.
Senator Barrasso gave each recruit a challenge coin to carry with them during their military careers.
"Remember your Wyoming roots and the vision and the values that you gain here and go forth and make sure that America stays safe and free," said Barrasso.
Marine recruit Isaac Williams will be heading to San Diego soon to begin boot camp and the most challenging three months of his life.
"My grandparents were in Vietnam, World War II, Korea and I want to create my own stories that way I have something to tell future generations," Williams said.
It’s a commitment that he knows would make each of his ancestors proud of his decision.
"It’s a lifetime commitment full of honor and courage and commitment," Williams said.
