Children’s Museum Withdraws Request For Lease Agreement With City

Cheyenne, Wyo. (Release) Mayor Rick Kaysen and the Board of Directors of the Children’s Museum of Cheyenne announced today the Children’s Museum of Cheyenne has withdrawn its request that the Cheyenne Governing Body consider a lease agreement between the City of Cheyenne and the Children’s Museum of Cheyenne for the construction of the children’s museum in the “hole” located at the 200 block of West Lincolnway, Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Amy Surdam, President of the Board of Directors of the Children’s Museum of Cheyenne, stated that “based on the concerns raised by City staff with regard to the lease agreement and concerns expressed by council members, the Children’s Museum of Cheyenne has decided that the lease agreement may not be the most appropriate vehicle to facilitate the construction of a children’s museum in downtown Cheyenne.

Based on that recognition, we have met with City officials, including Mayor Kaysen and the City Attorney’s Office, to discuss alternative methods to construct the children’s museum. Those alternative methods are in the process of being reviewed by legal counsel for the Children’s Museum of Cheyenne, but would likely involve entering into a development agreement with the City of Cheyenne which would allow the City of Cheyenne to partner with the Children’s Museum of Cheyenne to obtain funding for the project from the Wyoming Business Council.” The Children’s Museum of Cheyenne plans to present a development agreement to the City for consideration in the near future.

The Children’s Museum of Cheyenne will continue to work with the City of Cheyenne to ensure that the children’s museum is built in as expeditious manner as possible. Pursuing a development agreement with the City of Cheyenne and their partnership in seeking grants from the Wyoming Business Council will ensure that this project moves forward.

Mayor Kaysen added that, “The children’s museum will be a vital and exciting part of downtown Cheyenne. The City is eager to continue its partnership with the Children’s Museum of Cheyenne to ensure the success of this project.”
