Cheyenne, Wyo. (KGWN) The Southeast Wyoming Foster Grandparent Program is currently in search of limited income older adults (55 years and over) who would like to become Foster Grandparent Volunteers. Foster Grandparents volunteer between 15-40 hours per week in agencies like the public schools, Head Starts, Boys and Girls Clubs, Stride Learning Center, and the Safe House Shelter with children who are at risk or have special needs.
In return for their service Foster Grandparents receive a federal non-taxable stipend, a nutritious meal each serve day, travel assistance, an annual physical exam, pre-service and monthly in-service training, and community recognition. Most do it simply because of the non-tangible rewards they receive by helping a child succeed.
The children and youth served receive tutoring and mentoring and one-to-one attention to help them achieve their educational and personal goals. We currently have Foster Grandparents assigned to 28 schools and human service agencies, serving more than 1,000 children annually.
The blanket pictured above is part of a raffle to benefit the program. The cost of each ticket is one dollar and can be purchased by calling 307-634-1265.
