Cheyenne, Wyo. (KGWN) Every summer FUMC serves lunches on Parade Days during Frontier Days. In 2014, Saturday (7/19), Tuesday (7/22), Thursday (7/24) and Saturday (7/26).
Reasonably priced lunches served after CFD parades including hamburgers, hot dogs, sloppy joes, chips, coleslaw and home made pie. 100 pies baked per parade day-all home made by members of the congregation.
This tradition started in 1906-in the beginning they served creamed chicken and biscuits. The Ladies Aid Society served lunches to pay for church improvements and even refused to serve them for a few years until steps were built for better access to the kitchen which was located in the church basement at the time.
During WWII, the meals were not served but when they were started again, every one in the congregation was involved. The menu was also changed to sloppy joes and hotdogs and of course, the famous home made pies.
For the church this is a great opportunity to reach out to folks who may be visiting Cheyenne for the first time - or old friends who stop by for some refreshment and a piece of pie after watching the parade.
