No U.S. military casualties in Afghanistan for month of March

Washington, DC (CBS) - There were no U.S. military casualties in the Afghanistan war for the entire month of March, the Defense Department confirmed to CBS News.

Since "Operation Enduring Freedom" began in October 2001, there have only been two other months with no U.S. casualties, according to government data: January 2007 and July 2002.

The news comes as President Obama winds down the war in Afghanistan. He has asked the Pentagon to plan to withdraw all forces from there by the end of the year if a new security agreement with Afghanistan isn't approved by then.
