Washington, DC, (CNN) - Attorney General Eric Holder was hospitalized Thursday after experiencing faintness and shortness of breath, the Justice Department said.
Hospitalization was said to be precautionary and Holder was in good condition at MedStar Washington Hospital Center.
He was alert, comfortable and talking with doctors, the department said.
Holder, 63, experienced symptoms during a regular senior-staff meeting earlier in the day.
He had a busy schedule planned, including a White House meeting in the afternoon.
Holder has been attorney general throughout Barack Obama's presidency and is the first African American to hold the post.
He is married to a doctor and has three children.
